![]() ![]() Besides AVX, AMD is including the newer AVX2 standard, too, but not AVX-512. Programs using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) will run on this processor, boosting performance for calculation-heavy applications. Hardware virtualization is available on the Ryzen 7 3800X, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. This processor does not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card. For communication with other components in the machine, Ryzen 7 3800X uses a PCI-Express Gen 4 connection. The highest officially supported memory speed is 3200 MHz, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. AMD's processor supports DDR4 memory with a dual-channel interface. With a TDP of 105 W, the Ryzen 7 3800X consumes a good deal of power, so decent cooling is needed. You may freely adjust the unlocked multiplier on Ryzen 7 3800X, which simplifies overclocking greatly, as you can easily dial in any overclocking frequency. The silicon die of the chip is not fabricated at AMD, but at the foundry of TSMC. Out of the box, the Ryzen 7 3800X offers a better mixture of single- and multi-threaded performance than Intel's competing chips, and support for the PCIe 4.0 interface. AMD is building the Ryzen 7 3800X on a 7 nm production process using 3,800 million transistors. ![]() Ryzen 7 3800X has 32MB of 元 cache and operates at 3.9 GHz by default, but can boost up to 4.5 GHz, depending on the workload. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) the core-count is effectively doubled, to 16 threads. It is part of the Ryzen 7 lineup, using the Zen 2 (Matisse) architecture with Socket AM4. The pricey Godlike board retails for around $800, but has the 14+4+1-phase power delivery subsystem to support aggressive overclocking.ĪMD Socket AM4 (X570)AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, Ryzen 7 3800X, Ryzen 7 3700X, Ryzen 7 2700XMSI MEG X570 Godlike2x 8GB G.Skill Flare DDR4-3200Ryzen 3000 - DDR4-3200, DDR4-3600Second-gen Ryzen - DDR4-2933, DDR4-3466 Intel LGA 1151 (Z390)Intel Core i9-9900K, i7-9700KMSI MEG Z390 Godlike2x 8GB G.Skill FlareX DDR4-3200 DDR4-2667 & DDR4-3466 AMD Socket AM4 (X470)AMD Ryzen 7 1800XMSI X470 Gaming M7 AC2x 8GB G.Skill FlareX DDR4-3200 DDR4-2933 AMD Socket SP3 (TR4)Threadripper 2920XMSI MEG X399 Creation4x 8GB G.Skill FlareX DDR4-3200 DDR4-2933 Intel LGA 2066Intel Core i9-7920XMSI X299 XPower Gaming AC4x 8GB G.The AMD Ryzen 7 3800X is a desktop processor with 8 cores, launched in July 2019, at an MSRP of $399. Due to the compatibility matrix for the AM4 socket, we stepped back to the MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC for the Ryzen 7 1800X. We're using MSI's MEG X570 Godlike as our test platform for the second- and third-gen AMD processors. We manually disable this feature for our stock CPU testing to best reflect Intel's specifications. Performance, power consumption, and heat are all affected, naturally. MSI turns this on by default in its BIOS, similar to most of its competition. This setting modifies the CPU's clock rate and voltage to deliver higher performance, which is basically factory-sanctioned overclocking. These features are largely referred to as MCE, but the functionality remains the same: These settings essentially apply an all-core overclock to the processor that is defined by the maximum Turbo Boost bin supported by the processor. Intel's motherboard partners have infused their boards with predefined all-core boost profiles that go by many names, such as Multi-Core Enhancement (MCE) with ASUS motherboards and Enhanced Turbo with our MSI motherboard. ![]()
